New Year, New Books

We are extremely lucky at The Reading Room as we sometimes get sent advanced reading copies from publishers and authors of books due out in the coming year.

I’ve been lucky enough to already read a few books which are scheduled to be published in early 2024 and they are good! I’ve shared these below plus more that I think will be great reads too and have already added to my ever-growing book wishlist!

My Friends by Hisham Matar

I was really moved by this book. The novel is set around real violent events and we follow Khalid as he navigates friendship, loss, exile and so much more.

Day by Michael Cunningham

I loved the concept of this book - it’s set on the same April day over three years. We see the struggles of family life and while I would say there isn’t a big plot the book revolves around, the prose is beautiful and kept me turning the pages late into the night.

The Murder after the Night Before by Katy Brent

A murder mystery and while it does touch on tough subjects, this book has humour throughout. I thoroughly enjoyed this and couldn’t put it down!

Also out in early 2024

The Mystery Guest by Nita Prose

Molly is back!

For those who enjoyed The Maid, this is the sequel and it looks set to be just as good!

Table For Two by Amor Towles

If you have visited us here at The Reading Room and we’ve been chatting about books, I may have mentioned some of Amor Towles work to you - I’m a big fan! I am looking forward to reading this new book which contains six short stories.

Long Island by Colm Tóibín

The long-awaited sequel to Brooklyn!

Caledonian Road by Andrew O’Hagan

The author of Mayflies is back with what is being described as ‘an irresistible, unputdownable, state-of-the-nation novel - the story of one man's epic fall from grace’.

You can pre-order and purchase these books and more via our shop on Bookshop.org.
