Review of The Kite Rider

The Kite Rider by Geraldine McCaughrean is next up to be reviewed by our young reviewer and what an action-packed book it sounds!

The Kite Rider 🪁 is a beautifully written story about overcoming loss set in Ancient China .

Haoyou is devastated after the murder of his father.  Di Chan, the man who killed Haoyou’s dad, killed him just because he wanted to marry Haoyou’s mother Qing’an. Haoyou traps Di Chan and sends him in a boat far out to sea so Di Chan would never return.

But a when man clad in white offers Haoyou a new way, a path to FREEDOM, he follows this path!!! Haoyou goes to join the Jade Circus 🎪 so he can earn himself some money .

The second story thread involves Kublai Khan (the Mongol leader who invaded Ancient China) finding a member of the Song royal family (who used to rule over Ancient China), Miao.  Khan then tries to kill Miao as he wants to entirely remove the Song family to allow him to have total rule.

Can the circus 🎪 , Haoyou and his cousin save him?

Will they all come out of it alive???
